CINCINNATI, Ohio – Tyler Howard (2-3) earned his second complete game win of the season as the Purple Eagles defeated the Bearcats, 2-1, on Friday.

Game Recap

• It was truly a pitcher's duel as both the Purple Eagles and the Bearcats remained scoreless through the first six innings. Howard allowed just two Cincinnati hits through six frames.
• In the top of the seventh, Peter Battaglia tripled to right center field, putting the Purple Eagles in scoring position. A double from Michael Gabriele scored Battaglia and put Niagara ahead, 1-0. Gabriele then scored, unearned, to extend Niagara's lead, 2-0.
• The Bearcats scored once in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut Niagara's lead in half, 2-1, but the Purple Eagles remained in control in the ninth. Niagara got two quick outs before a Bearcat batter doubled, putting the tying run on base. Howard earned the final putout to end the inning and secure the Purple Eagles' second straight victory.  

Eagle's Eye On…

• Howard threw seven scoreless innings and completed his outing with 120 total pitches. He struck out a season-high six batters and allowed just four hits, three walks and one earned run.
• Gabriele led the Purple Eagles with two hits, one RBI and one stolen base.
• Battaglia and Giordano each recorded one hit.
