Yellow Jackets Halt Niagara’s Unbeaten Run

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The AIC Yellow Jackets snuffed out the five-game unbeaten run of the Niagara men's hockey team with a 3-1 win on Friday afternoon. The Purple Eagles got 39 saves from Brian Wilson in the defeat.

Game Recap
  • Fighting off their second penalty of the first period, the Purple Eagles successfully killed off all two minutes, but the Yellow Jackets continued to press, as AIC's 13th shot on goal had to be smothered by Wilson with several yellow jerseys swarming his crease.
  • With AIC outshooting the Purple Eagles, 21-2, nearly seven minutes into the second period, Ludwig Stenlund made Niagara's third shot on goal count. A feed from Jack Zielinski to Stenlund allowed the sophomore to rip a shot through to level the score at 1-1.
  • Coming off a power play opportunity in the second period, the Purple Eagles had to fend off a feisty AIC counter when the teams returned to 5-on-5. Once again, Wilson made two spectacular saves to deny the Yellow Jackets and keep the score level.
  • Moments later, AIC charged back in on a 2-on-1. Wilson aggressively left his crease to cut off the angle and deny another scoring chance.

Up Next
  • The series concludes in Springfield tomorrow afternoon with another 1:05 p.m. puck drop.
