NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Goals from
Kelsey Araujo and
Annie Ibey, with
Hailey Bicknell providing the assist on both goals, propelled the Purple Eagles to a 2-0 win over the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday.
SYNOPSIS
The trio of
Kelsey Araujo,
Annie Ibey, and
Hailey Bicknell gave Manhattan trouble all game with interchangeable positions. The Jaspers had a few chances in the early going, but rarely tested the NU backline for the rest of the game. Bicknell's vision and passing set Araujo through en route to the first goal of the game and provided the assist on Ibey's team-leading fifth goal in the second half.
MOMENTS
23' – First scoring chance of the game when
Hailey Bicknell played Araujo through in the box, but pulls her shot wide.
31' –
Annie Ibey close range effort in the box is saved.
34' (GOAL) – A block shot led to a Niagara goal. After a long distance shot by Manhattan was blocked,
Hailey Bicknell picked up the ball at midfield and played a perfectly weighted ball down the field to
Kelsey Araujo, who let the ball run into the box; she calmly beat the keeper near post.
45' – Niagara nearly added its second goal in the half. Bicknell unleashed a shot on the 18-yard line which hit the crossbar.
Veda Hensel followed but her shot was tipped over by the keeper.

Sabrina Locas made a save on Manhattan's Arianna Montefusco in the box.

Veda Hensel's free kick from the 18-yard line is saved by the goalie. Bicknell, then, collects the ball and plays across along the mouth of the goal to
Lauren Testa, but her shot goes wide.

Djeynaba Thiam goes on a long run, easily maneuvering through the defense. He shot on goal forces a corner.
76' – Thiam is through once again and she forces a kick save by the keeper.
79' (GOAL) – Bicknell finds Ibey in the box and her strikes beats the keeper far post.
88 – Thiam had another scoring chance, but her effort was saved.
EAGLE'S EYE ON…
- Annie Ibey scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. She opened the season scoring a goal in each game.
- Kelsey Araujo netted her third goal of the season, which have all been game winners.
- Hailey Bicknell's two assists in one game are a season-high by a Purple Eagle.
- Sabrina Locas made three saves en route to her fifth shutout of the season.

- The Purple Eagles are 13-1-0 in their last 14 home matches, including winning all four home matches this season while outscoring opponents 6-1.
