BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Niagara University Purple Eagles had their five-game win streak and six-game road win streak come to an end with a 104-85 setback to the Fairfield Stags on Saturday.
Game Summary
The Purple Eagles, who trailed by as much as 22 points in the first half, trimmed the deficit to six points with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Trailing 58-40 at halftime, NU stormed out of the gate to start the second half with a 9-0 run as Kahlil Dukes and Matt Scott combined for eight points.
After Fairfield increased its lead to 14 points, Niagara went on an 11-3 run to close the gap to 70-64 with 12:28 remaining. However, the Stags answered with consecutive 3-pointers by Aidas Kavaliauskas as the Stags maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
The Stags took advantage of a slow start by the Purple Eagles as they sprinted to an 18-9 lead five minutes into the game. A Dominic Robb layup cut the lead to 18-13 before a 7-0 run by Fairfield built a 25-12 lead. A pair of James Towns free throw cut the deficit to single digits, 31-22, with 10 minutes left in the first half, but the Purple Eagles were then outscored 12-2 in a three-minute span.
Eagle's Eye On…
- Kahlil Dukes scored a team-high 26 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field, 2 of 3 from 3-pointers and 8-for-8 at the free-throw line. Dukes dished out a team-high four assists.
- Matt Scott scored 11 points, had four rebounds and two assists.
- James Towns added 10 points.
- Marvin Prochet grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and chipped in seven points.

- Kahlil Dukes has 15 20-point games, including four straight, which lead the MAAC and are tied for second most in the NCAA.
- Niagara's five-game win streak was its longest in five seasons.
- The Purple Eagles' six-game road win streak was tied for the fourth active longest streak in the NCAA.
