Game Recap
- The first half was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Peacocks, with both teams going scoreless. Niagara, however, created early chances, outshooting Saint Peter's 10 to three in the first half.
- The Purple Eagles quickly began to dominate on offense in the second half of the game. In the 49th minute, Betts scored on a breakaway, assisted by Araujo, to give NU a 1-0 lead.
- Araujo struck next, sinking one in the net in the 59th minute to double Niagara's lead, 2-0. Bicknell earned the assist on the goal.
- In the 71st minute, Betts set Bicknell up for a goal to give the Purple Eagles a comfortable 3-0 lead.
- Betts scored her second goal of the game in the 87th minute to put the Purple Eagles ahead, 4-0.
- Niagara held Saint Peter's off for the remainder of the game and came away with the shutout victory.
Coach's Corner
- "Today was a complete team effort," said head coach Peter Veltri. "We played very well on a difficult surface and dominated from start to finish. Defensively, we were solid and limited them to very few opportunities and offensively, we created chances and finished them."
Inside the Numbers
- Betts' two goals are the most she has scored in a single game in her career. She now leads the Purple Eagles with four goals so far this season.
- This is van Nuland's second solo shutout of the week. She also held the Manhattan Jaspers scoreless in the teams' matchup on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
- Four goals is the most NU has scored in a single game this season. The last time the Purple Eagles scored four goals in a game was in a 4-0 win over Quinnipiac on Oct. 3, 2015.
- The Purple Eagles outshot the Peacocks 21 to 10 and held the advantage in corner kicks taken, 8-0.
