Volleyball Wraps Up Home Schedule This Weekend

The Niagara Purple Eagles will play their final matches at the Gallagher Center for the 2017 season when they host Iona on Saturday and Manhattan on Sunday.  

Purple Points
  • The Purple Eagles are 13-8 overall and sit in second place in the MAAC with a 9-3 record for their best conference start since 2012.
  • Niagara is 6-1 at home this season.
  • NU ranks 16th in the NCAA in total attack per set (38.67) and 20th in digs per set (17.44).
  • The Purple Eagles are second in the MAAC in assists per set (11.3), opponent hitting percentage (.167), and total digs (1,378).
  • Rylee Hunt is SECOND in the nation in digs per set (6.20) and 19th in total digs (490).
  • Five Purple Eagles rank in the top-10 in MAAC categories: Rylee Hunt leads the MAAC in digs per set (6.20), Draik Banks is fifth in the conference in hitting percentage (.296), Nicole Matheis is eighth in kills per set (2.77), fifth in points per set (3.3) and 10th in digs per set (2.85), Rachel Hall is ninth in assists per set (5.27), and Emilie Wright is 10th in aces per set (.34).
 
More MAAC Weekly Honors For Purple Eagles
  • Senior Rylee Hunt was named MAAC Libero of the Week for the sixth time this season, and outside hitter Jaycie Roberts earned her second MAAC Rookie of the Week honors announced on October 24.
  • Hunt's six MAAC Libero of the Week awards are the most since 2011.
  • Hunt led Niagara in digs with 6.25 per set and led each match in digs, and Roberts led the Purple Eagles in kills per set (3.88) and points per set (4.19) as Niagara picked up wins against Rider and Saint Peter's.
 
Hunt Among The Nation's Best
  • Rylee Hunt ranks in the top-10 in two NCAA active career categories.
  • Hunt is second in digs with 2,153 and fourth in digs per set with 5.04. 
 
Milestone Watch
  • Three Purple Eagles have come into their senior seasons eyeing program records and milestones.
  • Alexis Gray became the career leader in aces on October 26, surpassing Kari Honomichl's total of 154. Gray is third on the all-time assists list with 3,257 and is 32 behind Jennifer Hansford ('05) for second.
  • Rylee Hunt is second on the all-time digs list with 2,153. She is 253 away from tying Sam Morgan ('11) for first place.
  • Nicole Matheis  is fifth on the all-time kills list with 1,173 kills and is eighth on the digs list with 1,205.  Matheis is one of two Purple Eagles (Hannah Hedrick) to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.
 
Across The Net
Iona Gaels (10-15, 8-5 MAAC)
  • Iona is coming off splitting a pair of matches last weekend on the road, defeating Quinnipiac in four sets on Oct. 21 before falling to Fairfield in straight sets on Oct. 22.
  • Leaders: Claire Archibald (3.75 kills per set and 2.63 digs per set), Emma Rose (7.87 assists per set), Katie Brierley (3.62 digs per set), Mia Bonsignore (0.75 blocks per set),
  • The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series against the Red Foxes, 26-18. Niagara will look to split the regular season series after falling in five sets to Iona on Oct. 8, 3-2.
     
Manhattan Jaspers (1-23, 1-10 MAAC)
  • Since defeating Saint Peter's on Oct. 14, the Jaspers have lost their last four matches, dropping three of them in straight sets.
  • Leaders: Sandra Lozanova (2.34 kps), Zoe Lindsey (6.43 aps), Alyssa Rehrer (4.58 dps), Casey Monroe (0.80 bps)
  • The Jaspers lead the all-time series, 25-17. The Purple Eagles defeated the Jaspers earlier this season on Oct. 7, winning in straight sets.
