Women's Soccer Continues Four-Game Home Stand

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles continue their four-game home stand, hosting Robert Morris on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7:00 p.m. and Cleveland State on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1:00 p.m.

On the Field: Niagara Purple Eagles (0-1-1)
  • In their first two games of the season, the Purple Eagles outshot their opponents 29-22 and had a 13-9 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Shania van Nuland made her first collegiate appearance in the season opener at Michigan State on Aug. 19. She recorded a career-high four saves, as well as her first shutout; she held the Spartans scoreless through 90 minutes of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. Her eight total saves and .889 save percentage through the first two games of the season earned her MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
  • Laura Ortiz leads Niagara with five shots, followed by Emily Phillips with four shots.
  • Ortiz, Kelsey Lafferty and Eva Bachmann each have a team-high two shots on goal.

Last Time Out
  • Niagara was edged by Binghamton, 1-0, in its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 21.
  • The Purple Eagles outshot the Bearcats 12-10 and had three shots on goal.
  • Ortiz had a team-high three shots for the Purple Eagles, including one shot on goal.
  • In the 46th minute of the game, the Bearcats scored the lone goal of the day with a header that slipped by keeper van Nuland on the left side.
  • Niagara created chances late in the game. Ortiz took a shot in the 88th minute which beat the keeper, but hit the post. Tuesday Jordan took the Purple Eagles' final shot in the final minute of the game which went over the bar.

Last Matchup with Robert Morris (0-2-0)
  • The Purple Eagles and the Colonials last met on Aug. 30, 2015 in Moon Township, Pa. Niagara defeated Robert Morris, 1-0.
  • Haillie Price, assisted by Naomi Giovino, scored the lone goal of the day and led Niagara with four shots. Price and Amelia Gulley both had a team-high two shots on goal.

Last Matchup with Cleveland State (0-2-0)
  • Niagara and Cleveland State last faced off on Sept. 14, 2014. The game went into two overtimes and ended in a 0-0 draw.
  • The Purple Eagles outshot the Vikings 15-7 and had eight shots on goal compared to Cleveland State's one shot on goal.
