NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – In their non-conference finale on Tuesday, the Purple Eagles dropped two games to local rival Buffalo.
Game 1: Niagara 3, Buffalo 7
Michael Fuhrman led the Purple Eagles (16-34-1) with a team-high two hits and two runs scored. Fuhrman scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first after a balk from Buffalo's (19-30) pitcher to give Niagara an early 1-0 lead.
Buffalo came back and tied the score, 1-1, in the top of the third inning and the Purple Eagles quickly answered. With bases loaded in the bottom of the third,
Owen Dziados flied out to right field, scoring
Greg Cullen and earning an RBI. Fuhrman, who was on third base, then scored on a wild pitch to give the Purple Eagles a 3-1 lead.
The Bulls took their first lead of the game, 5-3, after a grand slam from Vinny Mallaro in the top of the fifth and held the Purple Eagles off for the remainder of the game.
On the mound,
Jordan Parranto struck out six batters in his 4.1 innings pitched.
Game 2: Niagara 0, Buffalo 8
In game two, the Bulls took an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back.
Fuhrman, Dziados,
Geoff Seto and
Christian Vangeison led Niagara at the plate with one hit each. Fuhrman also had one stolen base.
The Purple Eagles are back in action on May 19-20, closing out the regular season against Canisius in the teams' annual Battle of the Bridge series.
