Purple Eagles Victorious At Siena On Easter Sunday

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles closed out their three-game series with Siena with an 8-2 victory on Easter Sunday.

"The result of today's game was a testament to how hard these guys have worked in their mental game," Niagara head coach Rob McCoy said. "After getting roughed up in game two yesterday, we were able to hit the reset button and attack pitches today; we did that and did it well. We pitched and played good defense which allowed our offense to take chances and put pressure on them. All in all, we played extremely well and that will continue to be our goal."

Niagara (6-18-1, 2-1 MAAC) got on the board first with a score from Joel Brophy in the top of the second inning.

The Purple Eagles had an outstanding offensive inning in the top of the fourth. Greg Cullen doubled to left field, scoring Julian Gallup and Mark Meisner to give Niagara a 3-0 lead over the Saints (4-15, 1-2 MAAC). A double from Michael Fuhrman sent Tanner Kirwer home. Geoff Seto was reached on a fielder's choice and was able to advance to second on an error by the pitcher, which sent Cullen home to put the Purple Eagles ahead, 5-0. Brophy flied out to right field, scoring Fuhrman, and Christian Vangeison singled to left field, scoring Seto. Niagara led Siena, 7-0, going into the bottom of the fourth.

Taylor Hackett scored Niagara's final run in the top of the ninth.

At the plate, Kirwer went 3-for-5 and had one run. Cullen went 2-for-4 and had a team-high two RBIs. In the field, Brophy and Vangeison led the Purple Eagles with seven putouts each. Liam Stroud (1-1) faced 11 batters in 2.1 innings pitched and earned the win.

The Purple Eagles take the field again on April 2-3 in a three-game series at Saint Peter's.
