The Niagara softball team heads to Elon, N.C. to play in the Elon Tournament this weekend. The Purple Eagles will face Oakland (12:00 p.m.) and Elon (4:30 p.m.) on March 11 before taking on Elon (2:30 p.m.) and Central Connecticut State (4:45 p.m.) on March 12.
This weekend's trip marks Niagara's second appearance at the Elon Tournament. Niagara went 1-3 in four games in 2014, a weekend that was highlighted by a 5-2 win over St. Joseph's and a narrow 6-5 defeat to the host Elon Phoenix.
Last Time Out
- In the win against South Dakota State on March 6, Sarah Trifoso went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.
- Bertrand picked up her second win against South Dakota, pitching a complete game of 7.0 innings, striking out 9 batters while giving up two runs on three hits.
- Tied 1-1 against the Jackrabbits, the Purple Eagles scored four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning to seize a 5-1 lead they would not relinquish.
- Niagara dropped its other three games of the tournament, falling to Creighton (10-1) and Akron (6-0) on March 11 before a 10-2 loss to Sacred Heart earlier in the day on March 12.
- Bridget Hogan led all Niagara hitters in the tournament, hitting .455 (5-for-11) with a .636 slugging percentage. Hogan earned two doubles and three RBIs in four games played.
- Sarah March and Jennifer Timm also hit two doubles at the Rebel Spring Games.
- Jennifer Szilagyi hit 4-for-5 in two games on the weekend, bringing the freshman to .615 (8-for-13) in five games this season.
