Complete Meet ResultsNIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - In their first meet following the Christmas break, the Purple Eagles swimming and diving teams were swept by the University at Buffalo Bulls. The men's swimmers and divers lost 130-104, while the women's team fell by a score of 139-92.
Niagara claimed first place in six swimming events and two diving events throughout the meet. On the men's side,
Robert Brown took first in the 50 free with a time of 21.72, while
Shawn Warner won the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.11. Niagara took first in both of the 200 free relay events;
Eric Ebert,
Nick Rogers,
James Crumm, and
Robert Brown finished with a time of 1:28.20, while
Julia Casolo,
Brianna Smith,
Annie Eckhardt, and
Sydney Kligys clocked a 1:43.29 for the women.
The men and women swept the top three spots in both 100 breaststroke events as
Annie Eckhardt (1:12.88) and
Nicolas Winograd (58.75) took the top spots for the men and women, respectively.
Bridgette Ehrmann and
Grace McMahon filled out the top three for the women with times of 1:13.77 and 1:21.79, while
Andreas Rintel and
Nathan Booth completed the men's top three with respective times of 1:03.18 and 1:03.46.
Kligys took second place in two individual swimming events for the Purple Eagles ladies, clocking a 25.56 in the 50 free and a 59.92 in the 100 butterfly.
Daniel Ronen finished the men's 1000 free in 10:11.06 for a second-place finish of his own, while
Eric Ebert placed second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.36.
Clare Curran took third in the women's 200 IM with a time of 2:22.08.
On the diving board,
Emily Deck (180.53) and
Cara Mergner (163.58) earned points for the Purple Eagles with the top two spots.
Ryan Monteleone earned another first-place finish in the three-meter dive, scoring a 222.30.
The Purple Eagles have two more meets on their schedule before the MAAC Championships at ECC's Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Niagara takes on Canisius in their Battle of the Bridge matchup Jan. 22, and dual meet season concludes as the Purple Eagles welcome St. Bonaventure to the Niagara campus on Jan. 30.
