Women's Soccer Blanks Robert Morris For First Win

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Niagara Purple Eagles secured their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon after blanking the Robert Morris Colonials, 1-0.

"This was a gut check win for us today," said head coach Peter Veltri. " We didn't play our best, but we competed hard and found a way to win. I was proud of how we handled the physical nature of this game."

Haillie Price scored the first goal of the season for Niagara (1-1-1) in the 32nd minute. After receiving a pass from Naomi Giovino, Price's shot went off the hands of Colonials' goalkeeper Chelsea de Jager and into the back of the net. Price was also the Purple Eagles' leader in shots on goal with four on the day.

Price's strike was all that NU needed to get the victory, as senior goalkeeper Claire Feiertag recorded her second shutout of the season, stopping all five shots on goal by RMU.
In the 43rd minute, the Colonials were awarded a penalty kick following a handball in the box. RMU's Melissa Ercoli's attempt was low and to the right, but Feiertag was able to make the stop. Later, Feiertag faced back-to-back shots in the 56th minute by the Colonials' attack, but was able to thwart both attempts and preserve the shutout.

"Claire was fantastic today," Veltri said. "She made key saves that preserved the victory."

The Purple Eagles are back on the pitch on Friday, Sept. 4 when they travel to play Binghamton for a 5 p.m. start.
