WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles were first on the board, but a five-run third inning gave the Manhattan Jaspers the 8-4 win on Sunday afternoon at Dutchess Stadium.
The Purple Eagles (10-22-2; 7-8 MAAC) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.
Geoff Seto began his 2-for-4 afternoon with a single through the left side to lead off the frame.
Julian Gallup and
Tanner Kirwer both got on to load the bases. Seto scored on a ground ball and Gallup crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
It was in the bottom of the inning that the Jaspers (13-27; 7-11 MAAC) took a three-run lead with five runs on three hits and an error to make it a 5-2 game. Niagara cut the deficit to 503 with a run in the sixth, but Manhattan answered with another pair of its own in the bottom of the frame to bring the score to 7-3.
Seto turned in a RBI double in the eighth to bring his team within three, 7-4, before Manhattan added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to bring the score to its 8-4 final.
Liam Stroud took the loss on the afternoon after pitching the first five innings. Seto's two hits were tied for tha game-high.
The Purple Eagles return home on Tuesday for a mid-week doubleheader against Big Four rival Buffalo. First pitch for game one at Bobo Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
