Men’s Basketball Opens MAAC Play Friday

The Niagara Purple Eagles continue their homestand on Friday against the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 7 p.m. in their MAAC opener.
 
Tipoff Tidbits
•  Niagara started its current three-game homestand with an 88-70 defeat to Youngstown State on Saturday, Nov. 28.
•  Four Purple Eagles were in double figures. Emile Blackman scored a game-high 23 points and had a team-high six rebounds. Matt Scott scored 13 points, had a team-highs in assists with six and in steals with two. Chris Barton scored a career-best 11 points and Justin Satchell added 10 points.
•  The Purple Eagles made a season-high 10 3-pointers, with eight coming in the first half, against Youngstown State.
•  Emile Blackman has averaged 24.5 points in two career meetings against Quinnipiac.
•  Upward Trend: Emile Blackman has increased scoring in each game this season (4, 5, 11, 18, 18, 19, 23).
•  The Purple Eagles held Brown to a 30.7 field goal percentage, which is the lowest allowed by a MAAC team this season.

•  Niagara begins its 27th season in the MAAC as the conference celebrates its 35th year anniversary.
•  NU has a 232-214 MAAC record and has won four regular season championships and two conference tournament titles. 
•  The Purple Eagles are 13-13 in MAAC openers and are 17-9 in their first home MAAC game; however, they have only won one of their last five conference home openers (2012).
 
On The Court
Quinnipiac Bobcats (2-3/0-0 MAAC)
•  Quinnipiac begins its third season in the MAAC and owns a 23-17 conference record.
•  The Bobcats lead the nation in blocks per game at 8.2
•  The Bobcats head to Niagara coming off a tight loss against Albany, 58-54. Junior guard Daniel Harris led the way with 19 points, including 17 in the second half.
•  Senior guard Giovanni McLean averages a team-high 13.5 points per game.
•  Common opponent: The Bobcats and the Purple Eagles each faced off against Vermont early this season with both teams falling to the Catamounts.
 
Against the Bobcats (Quinnipiac leads 6-1)
•  The Purple Eagles and Bobcats split last season's season series.
•  NU's last home game versus Quinnipiac gave the program its first ever win over the Bobcats.
•  Prior to Niagara's 105-100 double overtime win over Quinnipiac, the Purple Eagles had lost the previous four meetings.
•  In Quinnipiac's inaugural MAAC season, the Bobcats defeated Niagara 89-80 in the 2014 MAAC Championship Quarterfinals.
