The Purple Eagles' men's and women's swimming and diving teams won seven events combined last Saturday, but were swept by Binghamton University and Siena College. The Niagara men lost to Binghamton 171.5 to 128.5, while the women fell to both Binghamton (206-88) and Siena (190-108).The women's team looks to rebound in the meet against Youngstown State this Saturday, while the men's team takes the weekend off.
Last Time Out: Women's Team- Diver Emily Deck had the only first-place finish for the women, taking first in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 204.90. She also placed second in the 1-meter dive at 192.15.
- Emily Altier finished second in the 500 free at 5:21.52 and third in the 1000 free at 10:56.37.
- Sydney Kligys took second in the 50 free with a time of 25.31.
- Relay team of Kligys, Emily York, Annie Eckhardt, and Julia Casolo combined for a time of 3:44.98, placing second in the 400 free relay.
Youngstown State- The Penguin's women's team have two wins in their first three meets. The victories came against St. Bonaventure (186-112) and Cleveland State (127-116), and the loss came against Duquesne (115-132).
- Their two wins occurred during their first two home meets, losing their third meet away against Duquesne.
- At the Penguin's last meet, Madison Aranda placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.81, and second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.65) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.44).
- At the Clarion Diving Invitational, the divers swept the top three places in the one-meter dive, Stelter with 278.48, Bec Stafford with 260.85, and Bailey Dipman 243.30.
History Lesson: Niagara vs. Youngstown State- The Purple Eagles' women's swimming and diving team is winless in their last five meets with Youngstown State.
- Last season, Niagara lost by a 166-120 deficit.
- Altier, Kligys, Emily York, and Bridgette Ehrmann all earned two second-place finishes in individual events in last season's meet.
