JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Niagara Purple Eagles continued their recent success against the Saint Peter's Peacocks with a 3-1 win on Saturday.Â
"It's always tough to play on this field, it's the great equalizer," head coach
Peter Veltri said. "Overall, I thought we did a good job of adapting and finding a way to win. At the end of the day it was our talent that earned this victory."
Laura Ortiz scored a brace for the second time this season while
Kelsey Lafferty netted her second goal of the season to provide the scoring for the Purple Eagles (7-5-2, 5-2-0 MAAC).Â
Ortiz's first goal came in the 24th minute on a pass from
Hayley Besaw. Niagara scored its second goal 1:11 into the second half when Lafferty launched a long range shot into the top right corner.Â
However, two minutes later the Peacocks (2-12-0, 0-7-0 MAAC) cut the lead in half on a goal by Michelle Laz. Ortiz added her second in 61st minute as she dribbled past her defender to slot home her fifth goal of the season to seal the game.
The Purple Eagles return home to host rival Canisius on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.
