BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles split their twinbill with the Binghamton Bearcats on Thursday. The Purple Eagles held off a late push to take game one, 5-3, before falling on a walk-off double in game two, 6-5.

Niagara 5, Binghamton 3

Brittany Richberg's three RBIs performance helped Niagara snapped a five-game losing streak in game one of the doubleheader. After Aileen Hinton scored on an error by the shortstop for the first run of the game in the fourth inning, Richberg immediately followed with a two-run double to left centerfield as NU took a 3-0 lead after four innings.

Richberg's third RBI came on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning, while Ally Gay followed with a RBI double of her own to drive home Rachel Ziarnowski. Binghamton scratched back with one run in the sixth, but solid pitching by Kim Bryson kept the Bearcats at bay.

Binghamton made one last push in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs on a RBI double. However, Bryson got the last batter to pop out to end the game. Bryson struck out five and allowed three earned runs in the complete-game win to improve to 3-8 on the season.

Niagara 5, Binghamton 6

Niagara (12-21) had a season-high 15 hits and 21 total bases in game two of the doubleheader. However, the Purple Eagles fell on a walk-off double.

The Purple Eagles got on the scoreboard first in the second inning. Sarah March and Richberg each had RBI singles to give NU a 2-0 lead. Niagara added a third run in the fourth inning when Ali VanGiesen started the inning with an opposite field home run, her first of two homers in the game.

A four-run inning by Binghamton in its half of the inning put the Bearcats (15-18) up 4-3 and added another run in the fifth. Trailing 5-3 entering the final inning, VanGiesen launched her second homer of the game which was a two-run variety to tie the game at 5-5. Though, the Bearcats snatched the game with a RBI double for the game-winning run.

VanGiesen finished with three RBIs, two runs and went 3-for-4. Richberg went 3-for-5 and Bridget Hogan had a 3-for-4 game.
