Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara Purple Eagles had their 10-game win streak against Saint Peter's snapped in a doubleheader on Saturday.
Niagara 1, Saint Peter's 4
Saint Peter's used a late rally en route to snapping Niagara's 10-game winning streak in game one of the doubleheader. The game started brightly for the Purple Eagles, who took a 1-0 lead after one inning on a solo home run by Katelyn Gruarin.
The score stayed 1-0 until the fifth inning when the Peacocks mustered one run off of starting pitcher Kim Bryson, who struck out a season-high eight batters in 5.1 innings of work.
In the following inning, SPU reeled off three runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead. Niagara, which outhit SPC 8-7, went hitless in the final two innings.
Niagara 4, Saint Peter's 6
Niagara's comeback bid fell short in game two. The Purple Eagles (11-17, 2-4 MAAC) found themselves trailing 5-1 after four innings in part to a four-run third by the Peacocks (6-26, 2-4 MAAC).
Niagara scored one run in the fifth on a RBI double by Bridget Hogan and got two runs in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-4. The Purple Eagles had the bases loaded when Brittany Richberg grounded out to first to send home one run, while Aileen Hinton was walked to score another.
However, the Peacocks added one run in their half of the sixth on an error to increase their lead to two runs.
NU had a chance to extend the game in the last inning. With runners on second and third with one out, NU recorded consecutive outs – a strike out and flied out – to end the game.
Niagara looks to rebound with a doubleheader on Sunday at Manhattan starting Noon.
