The Niagara softball program will participate in the Rebel Spring Games for the second consecutive season from March 3-7 in Winter Haven, Fla.
Niagara (1-3) enters the classic after defeating Saint Joseph's, 5-2, in in the final game of the Phoenix Opening Classic on Feb. 23. FreshmanÂ
Bridget Hogan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to spark the win. Hogan batted .357, which was tied for the second highest on the team, and led the team in slugging percentage (.714), RBIs (five), doubles (2), total bases (10), home runs (one) stolen bases (one) and tied for the team-high in hits (five) in four games en route to being named MAAC Rookie of the Week.
Amanda Werth drove in three RBIs and had five hits in 14 at-bats, while having a team-high 18 putouts. In the circle,Â
Kim Bryson had a complete game loss despite allowing no earned runs in one appearance.Â
Jennifer Sansano led the team with 11 strikeouts in three appearances.Â
The Purple Eagles are opening up the tournament against the La Salle Explorers. La Salle is 1-2 in its past three games. Its last game at Norfolk State resulted in 12-0 win. Christina Bascara leads the Explorers with 5 hits, while Bascara, Heyer and Hagarty are tied at 2 runs each. The Purple Eagles play La Salle on March 3 and March 7 at 10 a.m.
Niagara plays St. Francis March 3 at 12 p.m. and March 4 at 2 p.m. St. Francis is 4-0 so far this season, outscoring its opponents by eight runs or more. Davina Kachnovitz leads the Red Flash with 7 hits and 10 runs. Five St. Francis players have more than 10 at-bats, while five have one home run each in the past four games.
Temple is currently has a 2-3 record with Sarah Prezioso leading the team with 19 at-bats, 9 hits, and 5 runs. The Purple Eagles take on the Owls March 4 at 12 p.m. and March 5 at 2 p.m.
