Men's Basketball Visits Manhattan Sunday

The Niagara Purple Eagles head back on the road for a Sunday matinee against the Manhattan Jaspers.

The Purple Eagles have lost five straight games; however, four of the contests have come down to the final minute including two at the buzzer. One of the games where NU was denied at the buzzer was against Manhattan, despite a game-high 33 points by Antoine Mason. The Purple Eagles trailed 78-77 with seven seconds left when Rayvon Harris' layup was blocked by Manhattan's Rhamel Brown at the buzzer.

Niagara and Manhattan have alternated season sweeps in the last two seasons. The Purple Eagles swept last season's series by winning both games by four points. Manhattan will be looking for the season sweep for the first time since 2011-12.

Tipoff Tidbits
• Antoine Mason moved into fifth all-time in career scoring at Niagara on Feb. 9 after a game-high 33 points versus Manhattan. Mason is 37 points away from moving into fourth place.
• Tahjere McCall scored 16 points and led the game with seven assists, which are the most by a Purple Eagle this, in the previous meeting against Manhattan.
• Marcus Ware recorded his second career double-double with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds vs. Canisius on Friday.
• Marvin Jordan needs 29 3-pointers to tie Tyrone Lewis ('10) for first in career 3-pointers at Niagara (290).
• Manhattan and Niagara are fourth and ninth, respectively, in the nation in free throws made.

Mason Rising Up MAAC's Charts
• Antoine Mason ranks 30th all-time in career points in MAAC history with 1,763.
• Mason's 675 points are the 16th most in a single-season since the 1997-98 season and his average of 26.0 points per game are tied for third most during the same time span. 
• His 210 free throws made are ranked sixth most in a season since the 1997-98 campaign.

Charity Starts At Home
• Antoine Mason moved ahead of Alex Ellis ('58) for third all-time in free throws made. Mason, who has 526 in his career, is 128 free throws away from tying Calvin Murphy ('70) and Juan Mendez ('05) for first place.
• Mason, the nation's leader in free throws made and attempts, is 32 free throws away from tying Calvin Murphy for most in a single season. Murphy set the single-season school record (242) during the 1967-68.

On The Court
Manhattan Jaspers (18-6, 11-4 MAAC)

• Manhattan, which is ranked 14th in the latest Mid-Major Poll, has won four straight games.
• The Jaspers are tied for first in the nation in true road wins with 11.
• George Beamon leads the team and his third in the MAAC with 19.1 points per game. Rhamel Brown is second in the nation in blocks with 3.8 per game.
• Manhattan leads the conference in scoring margin, defensive field goal percentage, defensive 3-point field goal percentage, blocks and steals.   

Against The Jaspers (Manhattan leads, 46-30)
• Niagara trails in the all-time series, but has won 13 of the last 18 meetings.
• NU won both games last season to record its first sweep of Manhattan since the 2009-10 season.
• Manhattan nipped Niagara in the first meeting, 78-77, last Sunday.  
• The Purple Eagles are 6-2 in their last eight visits to Manhattan.

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – For the second consecutive game, the Niagara Purple Eagles were edged by one point as they fell to MAAC preseason favorite the Manhattan Jaspers, 78-77, on Sunday afternoon.
