Live StatsThe Niagara Purple Eagles and the St. John's Red Storm will renew their historic rivalry on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
The Purple Eagles are in a midst of a three-game stretch where they will face longtime rivals. NU began the stretch with a 74-59 defeat to St. Bonaventure in the Big 4 Classic on Nov. 29 at the First Niagara Center. On Saturday, Dec. 6 NU will host archrival Canisius at 3 p.m. on ESPN3.
Niagara and St. John's will meet for the 99th time and the first since 2007 when the Purple Eagles defeated the Red Storm, 77-73, on December 15. It was the first time Niagara won at the Carnesecca Arena in 44 years.

Tipoff Tidbits• This will be the second time this season NU will face a team from a Power 6 conference (opened season at Pitt). Niagara's last win versus a Power 6 conference opponent was against South Florida, at the time a member of the Big East, on Dec. 14, 2008 (70-55).
• Four Purple Eagles (
Rayvon Harris,
Ramone Snowden,
Emile Blackman and
Karonn Davis) are averaging in double figures scoring. The last time NU had at least four players finished the season in double figures was during the 2010-11 season.
• According to KenPom.com, Niagara is the
SIXTH youngest team in the nation. NU has 13 underclassmen on the roster.
• Freshmen
James Suber and
Julian Richardson made their collegiate debut in Niagara's last game. All scholarship players have seen time this season.
The Niagara/St. John's Connection• Niagara University President Rev. James J. Maher, C.M. spent 23 years at St. John's, including the his last two years as an Executive Vice President, before being named Niagara's president in March 2013.
• Niagara head coach Chris Casey was on the coaching staff from 2004-10. Casey helped the Red Storm qualify for the Big East Tournament in 2006 and an appearance to the CBI in 2009.
• Niagara assistant coach Will Lanier was on St. John's coaching staff from 2004-08, and assistant coach Kareem Brown played football for the Red Storm in 2002 and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from St. John's.
• John "Taps" Gallagher, for whom the Niagara basketball facility is named, was a three-sport athlete at St. John's. He earned his 300th career win against St .John's on Feb. 13, 1954.
• Niagara and St. John's are two of three Vincentian schools in the United States. DePaul University is the third.
Niagara In December • The Purple Eagles are 29-29 in December since the 2006-07 season.
• Six times Niagara had a record over .500 with the last time coming during the 2009-10 season (5-2).
On The CourtSt. John's Red Storm (4-1, 0-0 Big East)• St. John's has won four of its first five games of the season, with the lone loss coming in the NIT Season Tip-Off Championship to No. 10/8 Gonzaga, 73-66, on Nov. 28.
• The Red Storm have four players in double-digit scoring (D'Angelo Harrison, Rysheed Jordan, Phil Greene IV and Sir'Dominic Pointer).
• Harrison leads the team in scoring (17.8 ppg) and in rebounding (9.0 rpg).
Against The Red Storm (St. John's leads 71-27)• After playing 12 times from 1997-2007, this will be the first meeting in seven seasons.
• The Purple Eagles defeated the Red Storm, 77-73, in the last meeting between the programs.
• NU defeated St. John's in the 1972 NIT semifinals in the programs' only meeting in the NIT.
• NU is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings and is 10-41 all-time at St. John's.
Last Meeting – December 15, 2007Niagara 77, St. John's 73 QUEENS, N.Y. - Behind an aggressive offensive attack and a changing defensive strategy, the Niagara men's basketball outlasted St. John's inside Carnesecca Arena on Saturday, 77-73. The Purple Eagles outscored the Red Storm 18-9 in the final five minutes and went to the free throw line a season high 46 times en route to the four-point win.

Against The Big East• Niagara is 62-149 against the current members of the Big East.
• The Purple Eagles have played St. John's the most (98) and have the most wins (27) against the Red Storm.
• This is the second straight season Niagara will play a Big East team. The Purple Eagles opened last season at Seton Hall.
A Historic Upset• The Purple Eagles pulled off one of the biggest upsets in school history during the 1984-85 season, upending St. John's 62-59 on Dec. 15, 1984 at Niagara Falls Convention Center.
• The only other team the Lou Carnesecca-coached Red Storm lost to that year was Georgetown, as St. John's reached the Final Four that season.
• Notable players on that 84-85 Red Storm squad were Walter Berry, Marc Jackson, Chris Mullin and Bill Wennington. Berry is one of only two Red Storm players to earn the Player of the Year trophy, while all four went on to great careers in the NBA.
• One month after the historic upset, Carnesecca began a trend that would become as famous as his coaching by donning the first of his famous sweaters in a victory over Pittsburgh.
