LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Niagara volleyball team fell to archrival Canisius, 25-9, 16-25, 25-22, 25-19, in the 2014 MAAC Championship Fifth Place match on Saturday.
Alex Stone led Niagara (14-18) in kills with 13 and Melissa McGwin added 11. Alexis Gray led the match with 36 assists and added 12 digs for her team-best 16th double-double of the season. Rylee Hunt led the team with 24 digs and Nicole Matheis had 17. Amanda Sedore had seven kills, Allison Reis had eight digs and Tara Topolski had four digs in their final match. The Purple Eagles who swept the regular season were unable to win the third meeting.
Niagara, which was picked ninth in the preseason poll, finished with a 10-win improvement and will return 10 letterwinners.
