Volleyball Defeats Saint Peter’s In Four Sets

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – After dropping the first set, the Niagara Purple Eagles rolled to a 18-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-20, victory over the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday to sweep the regular season series.

"We knew Saint Peter's was going to be tough on their home court and they've been playing well of late," head coach Vilis Ozols said. "I was very pleased with the technical adjustments that our team made after dropping the first set. Alexis (Gray) had another outstanding match feeding the offense. The hitters made several nice adjustments from this week's practice that resulted in some excellent results for them."

A pair of Purple Eagles (11-13, 7-6 MAAC) notched double-doubles in the win. Alexis Gray recorded her team-best 10th, and third straight, double-double with a team-high 40 assists and 10 digs. Nicole Matheis had team-highs in kills with 14 and in digs with 16. Amanda Sedore had 12 kills and added eight digs, Rayenne Hale chipped in 10 kills and Rylee Hunt had 14 digs.

After losing the first set 25-18, the Purple Eagles rallied to take the second set which had nine ties.  NU, which trailed 14-9 at one point, took a 24-23 lead on a kill by Alex Stone and won the set on the next point on a kill by Matheis. The Purple Eagles netted 10 of the final 14 points to secure the third set, 25-19. Niagara had a match-best .395 hitting percentage (16 kills, one error). Niagara pulled away in the fourth set, due in part to a set-high seven errors by the Peacocks (6-17, 3-11 MAAC), as the Purple Eagles registered 16 kills for the second straight set.
