ResultsFREDONIA, N.Y. - The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued the 2014-15 season at the Steele Hall Natatorium on Saturday against the Fredonia Blue Devils.
The men's team won with a 131-104 decision, while the women also beat the Blue Devils, 132-111.
The Purple Eagles had 14 first place winners in the individual swimming and diving events.
For the men's squad, Niagara took the top two spots in the 200 freestyle with
Alexander Pizzo leading the pack (1:48.99), while
Shawn Warner placed first in the 50 freestyle (21.96) and 200 butterfly (1:56.46).
Edgar Melchor placed first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.12.
James Crumm won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.16.
Pizzo also took first place in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.78 while
Ryan Monteleone won the 1 meter (269.20) diving event. The 400 medley relay team of Baxter, Melchor, Warner and
Eric Ebert placed first with a time of 3:37.24. The 400 free relay team of Crumm,
Andrew Wilson, Pizzo and
Jason Ellis took first with a time of 3:23.86.
The Purple Eagle women also had an impressive day.
Emily Altier placed first in the 1,000 free (11:06.79) and the 500 free (5:25.63).
Emma Pullano swam the best time in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.02 while
Meredith Ricks took first in 200 backstroke (2:13.17).
The 400 freestyle relay team of
Emily York,
Julia Casolo,
Brianna Smith and Ricks took first place with a time of 3:49.72. Time 400 medley relay team of Ricks,
Bridgette Ehrmann,
Sydney Kligys and
Annie Eckhardt also took first with a time of 4:09.11.
Niagara will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Oxy Aquatic Center where both the men and women host Waterloo with events beginning at 1 p.m.
