Niagara Swimming & Diving Returns to Action at Canisius


NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara swimming and diving teams are set to battle cross-town rival Canisius in the team's final road meet of the regular season on Saturday, Jan. 18.  The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College.

Last Time against Canisius
In the team's final home meet of the 2012-13 season, the swimming and diving teams were swept by the Golden Griffins on Jan. 19 at the Oxy Aquatic Center.  The men dropped a 168.5-72.5 decision to Canisius, while the women fell 147-96.

The men's team was led by Shane Baxter who put together a pair of first-place finishes in the 200 IM, and the 200 backstroke, while combining with Carl Roycroft, Brian Sawma and Eric Ebert in the 400 medley relay to pocket second place.

The women received solid efforts from Ashley Harrington who placed second in both the 50 freestyle and 200 butterfly.  The Purple and White also saw Emily Kisloski grab second in the 1000 freestyle.  Harrington and Kisloski put together a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with Chelsea O'Laughlin and Aubrey Kettrick.

Last Time in the Pool
The men's and women's team are coming off a loss in a meet against Buffalo.  The men came close to a victory with a 116-104 score, and the women were defeated by a 126-88 decision. 

Freshman Shawn Warner won the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle, while Robert Brown and James Crumm took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, respectively. 

Grace Coyle earned a top time in the 100  breaststroke with Clare Curran coming in second.  Montanna Valler and Sydney Kligys added a second-place finish in their respective events.

Emily Hughes and JaRon Williams represented the NU diving teams, as both won the three-meter diving event with a score of 219.15 and 229.95, respectively. 

Up Next for NU
Following this weekend's meet the Purple Eagles will host St. Bonaventure in the final meet of the 2013-14 campaign before heading to the MAAC Championships.  The meet is scheduled to begin at noon at the Oxy Aquatic Center.
 
2014 Swimming & Diving MAAC Championships
For the fourth consecutive year, the 2014 Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships will take place at the Burt Flickinger Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. with Canisius College and Niagara co-hosting the three-day event from Feb. 13-15  Tickets can be purchased through the MAAC website.
