NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara softball team moved up one spot in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings with a doubleheader sweep of Saint Peter’s Monday afternoon, winning 5-0 and 10-2. Now just two places out of a playoff spot, the Purple Eagles improve to 9-25 (6-6 MAAC) while the Peacocks fall to 7-37 (1-9 MAAC).

Junior
Jennifer Sansano threw her third consecutive MAAC shutout to lead the Purple Eagles past the Peacocks, 5-0.

Katelyn Gruarin hit back-to-back doubles to score three runs collectively, before senior
Alexis Wayne added a double of her own to drive home two more runs.
Saint Peter’s threatened with a double and single to lead off the final inning. But following the hits, the Peacocks would ground into a double play before Sansano struck out the next batter to end the game.
Sansano finished with a season high 13 strikeouts. As a starting pitcher, Sansano has not allowed a single run and just nine hits in her last 23 innings pitched.

Amanda Werth’s two-run walkoff double gives Niagara the nightcap win and its tenth-consecutive victory over Saint Peter’s, 10-2.
Senior
Becky Zill got the Purple and White on the board in the second inning with a two-run two bagger, her 23
rd and 24
th RBI of the season. Zill now has 105 career RBIs and is just two shy of third all-time in program history (
Jenna Baker '10, 107).
The Peacocks took an early 1-0 lead with a single shot home run in the first inning. Saint Peter’s added one run in the fifth, but junior
Kim Bryson held the MAAC rival scoreless in four of six innings and allowed just five hits to earn her second-consecutive win.
The Purple Eagles return to action tomorrow with a Little 3 doubleheader against St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
