NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara softball team combined for a season-high 21 hits during a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader, but it was the Siena Saints who would sweep the Purple Eagles Monday afternoon, 5-2 and 10-7.

Senior
Alexis Wayne tied her season-high by hitting 3-for-4 with an RBI, but the Siena Saints (10-22, 2-2 MAAC) would take game one, 5-2.
Both runs for the Purple Eagles (4-23, 1-5 MAAC) came in the bottom of the fifth inning, facing a five-run deficit. With sophomore
Ambur Farmer on third after doubling to right center field, sophomore
Katelyn Gruarin singled to bring Farmer home and get Niagara on the board. After a base hit by senior
Becky Zill Wayne would drive in Gruarin to cut Siena’s lead, 5-2. Both RBI singles from Gruarin and Wayne came during the first pitch of their at-bat.
Junior
Jennifer Sansano whom followed an 11 strikeout performance on Sunday with 10 more today, held the Saints without a run in the final two innings, but the lead would stand to let Siena come away with the win.
Niagara out-hit the Saints 10-7 in the loss.

Despite compiling three runs in the final inning, Niagara dropped game two of Monday’s doubleheader, 10-7.
Senior
Becky Zill's two RBI double with one out would cut Siena’s lead to just three runs. The rally fell short soon after when Siena turned a double play to end the game and secure the victory. With the hit, Zill extends her hitting streak to seven games.
After falling behind by one, the Purple Eagles used three runs on three hits in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead.
It was a six-run fourth inning which pulled the Saints ahead, 8-3. Siena would add two more runs in the sixth inning for a final total of 10.
Junior
Brittany Richberg recorded a game-high three hits, her tenth multi-hit game of the season. Junior
Aileen Hinton also batted well, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Purple Eagles return to action tomorrow afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against the Akron Zips at Niagara Field starting at 3 p.m.
