CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Junior
Kim Bryson held Northern Kentucky scoreless in five of six innings, but an unearned run in the fourth edged the Norse past the Purple Eagles Sunday afternoon, 2-1.
“I was proud of the way we came out today considering last night’s score,” said head coach
Ellie Chan. “Kim [Bryson] threw very well after a rough outing. The girls definitely made some positive changes today. We have to be better, though. We have some things we need to tweak this week and will work very hard. We will just keep plugging away.”
NKU (3-6) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth after a bases-loaded single-shot to right field from Tory Speakman advanced the base runners to tie the game. With the go-ahead run on third, Mandi McQueen reached first on a fielder’s choice, driving in the winning run and putting the Norse ahead, 2-1.
Bryson (0-2) struck out three and allowed five hits in six innings.
Niagara (1-4) took the initial lead at the top of the second inning with two outs on the board. While the defense was keyed in on sophomore
Katelyn Gruarin attempting to steal second base, Senior
Alexis Wayne stole home, putting the Purple Eagles up, 1-0.
The Purple Eagles return to action with doubleheaders against Stetson (March 1), Bethune-Cookman (March 3) and Michigan State (March 5) before traveling to Kissimmee, Fla. to play in the Rebel Spring Games.
