NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Cleveland State on Saturday at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The men fell 166-76, while the women were defeated 162-76.
"We had a great day today," head coach
Ben Nigro said. "The team came out and swam great against Cleveland State. I am very proud of our performances."
The men collected four first place finishes against the Warriors, including one relay and three individual events.
Shane Baxter led the way, taking first in the 200 IM, finishing the race in 1:55.92, and registered a win in the 100 backstroke (51.51). The 200 medley relay, made up of Baxter,
Carl Roycroft, Shawn Warner and
Robert Brown captured the top spot with a time of 1:35.24.
Brown was also a victor in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 48.13, while grabbing a second place finish in the 50 freestyle (21.65). Warner added to the NU point total after earning a second place finish in the 100 butterfly (52.77).
On the women's side,
Sydney Kligys and
Meredith Ricks collected a win each in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively. Kligys swam the 50 freestyle in 25.48, while Ricks clocked in at 1:01.46 in the 100 backstroke.
Clare Curran placed second in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:10.27.
Both sides with compete next on Nov. 16 when they take on Siena in Loudonville, N.Y. at 1 p.m. for Niagara's first conference meet of the season.
