Purple Eagles Prepare for Siena and Colgate

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in action this week on Saturday, Nov. 16 as the team will swim against Siena, before then traveling to Colgate on Sunday, Nov. 17.  The pair of meets will begin at 1 p.m.

REVIEWING LAST WEEK
The Purple Eagles were swept by the Cleveland State Warriors last weekend at the Oxy Aquatic Center, as the men fell 166-76, and the women dropped a 162-76 decision.

The men had solid showings from Shane Baxter (200 IM and 100 backstroke) and Robert Brown (100 freestyle) who each pocketed first-place finishes in their respective events.  Baxter and Brown also combined with Shawn Warner and Carl Roycroft in the 200 medley relay for the top spot.

The women received victories from Sydney Kligys and Meredith Ricks in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, respectively.

NEWBIES STARTING OUT WITH A SPLASH
The newcomers have combined for 14 top finishes in individual events during the season, while helping relay teams to first place three times thus far.  Freshman Shawn Warner leads the way with six individual wins, while also pocketing a pair of Niagara records (200 butterfly and 400 IM) and three meet records during the New England Catholic Invitational.  Fellow first-year Robert Brown is not far behind with four.  Both have combined with Shane Baxter and Carl Roycroft in the 200 and 400 medley relay for a combined three first-place times, with the NE Catholic Invite victory going down as a pool record.

On the women's side Sydney Kligys and Meredith Ricks have collected five top times,  Kligys with three and Ricks with a pair.

BAXTER CONTINUES TO SHINES
Shane Baxter was solid in his first two seasons as a Purple Eagle and this year has been no exception.  The junior has claimed eight individual events so far this year, while helping the 200 and 400 medley relay to a combined three top finishes.

His solid effort against Waterloo on Nov. 3 earned him MAAC Male Swimmer of the Week honors.

UP NEXT
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will have some time off until December 6-9 as the Purple Eagles will prepare to swim in the Zippy Invitational at Akron, Ohio.
