NIAGARA UNIV, N.Y. – In the team’s final home meet of the season, the Niagara swimming and diving teams were swept by cross-town rival Canisius on Saturday afternoon during Senior Day.
The men fell to the Golden Griffins by a 168.5-72.5 score.
Shane Baxter put together a pair of first place finishes in the 200-yard IM (2:01.07), and the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.20). Baxter combined with
Carl Roycroft,
Brian Sawma and
Eric Ebert in the 400-yard medley relay to earn second place with a time of 3:35.04.
Jason Ellis earned second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.82), and placed third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:09.92), while teammate
Joshua Remaniak came in a 10:09.38 to take second place. Roycroft swam the 50-yard freestyle in 22:85 for second place.
The women’s team was defeated by Canisius by a 147-96 margin. Double-winner
Aubrey Kettrick won both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle events (54.10/1:55.98), while
Ashley Harrington placed second in both the 50-yard freestyle (26.03), and the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.21). The women also received second-place finishes from
Emily Kisloski in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:06.79), and
Lindsey Jackson in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.34).
The team of Harrington, Kisloski,
Chelsea O'Laughlin, and Kettrick took top honors in the 400-yard freestyle relay event with a time of 3:45.89.
Austin Devlin grabbed first place in the one-meter diving event (270.83), and his final score of 258.83 in the three-meter event was good enough for second.
Faith O'Malley and
Emily Hughes place fourth and fifth, respectively in the one-meter dive with final scores of 204.98 and 195.60. The pair flip flopped in the three-meter event as Hughes placed fourth (191.85), and O’Malley finished fifth (190.95).
The Purple Eagles take a trip to Olean, N.Y. on Friday, Jan. 25 to battle Little Three foe St. Bonaventure. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
