AKRON, Ohio - The Niagara softball team (4-18) dropped both games of its doubleheader against the Akron Zips (13-18-1) on Tuesday afternoon. The Purple Eagles lost game one by a 12-1 score, while falling in the second game by a 5-0 score. 

Akron 12, Niagara 1
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, senior Jaclyn Russell would tie the game for Niagara in the second inning, smashing her first home run of the season over the left field wall. 

The Zips would utilize the long ball to surge past the Purple Eagles, hitting two solo home runs and a pair of three-run shots off of sophomore starter Kim Bryson and senior relief pitcher Bri Allen on their way to a 12-1 lead. 

Akron 5, Niagara 0
Senior pitcher Julie DiMatteo started for the Purple Eagles in the second game against the Zips, giving up three runs in the first two innings, including a two-RBI double in the second inning.

Junior Sarah Anthon picked up both hits for Niagara, going 2-for-3 in the nightcap. Akron held Niagara at bay, with 10 Purple Eagle batters striking out. 

Niagara finishes its Ohio road trip with a single game against Cleveland State on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
