AMHERST, N.Y. - The Niagara softball team (9-22, 2-2 MAAC) dropped a non-conference doubleheader to cross-town rival Buffalo (14-21, 4-7 MAC). The Bulls defeated Niagara 11-0 in game one and 9-6 in game two.

Niagara senior pitcher Julie DiMatteo had a tough time against the Bulls, giving up nine runs on seven hits in three innings. The Bulls scored five times in the first inning and twice in the second, third and fourth innings.

Freshman Ambur Farmer had Niagara's only hit of the contest in the first inning. After Farmer's hit, only four more Purple Eagles would get on base, either by a walk or by getting hit by the pitch.

Niagara gave up six consecutive runs, including four runs during the first two innings, to put the Purple Eagles in a tough spot. 

The Purple Eagles had bases loaded with two outs in the top of the fourth inning, but senior Ali Grab lined a ball to centerfield for the final out of the inning.

Niagara came storming back in the top of the sixth inning, scoring six runs on five hits, including junior Becky Zill's bases clearing double that scored three runs to tie the game. 

The Bulls would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Karley Nevez hit an inside the park home run to left center field, scoring three runs.

The Purple Eagles are back in action on Friday, when they visit MAAC foe Siena for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
