Softball Heads Back To Baltimore For Dawg Pound Classic

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara softball team (1-8) is headed back to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) campus for the second time in as many weeks to take part in the 2012 UMBC Dawg Pound Classic.

Niagara will take on Seton Hall (6-8) and Coppin State (4-4) on Saturday, before playing Mount St. Mary's (3-10) and the Retrievers (6-7) on Sunday.

The Purple Eagles are currently led by senior infielder Jennifer Hare, who is batting a .333 with eight hits and three RBIs. Junior Becky Zill also has been hitting the ball fairly well for Niagara, hitting two home runs and eight RBIs so far.

Sophomore Kim Bryson has been pitching well for the Purple Eagles, earning a 5.05 earned-run average, while striking out a team-high 31 batters in a team-high 26.1 innings.

Following this weekend's action, the Purple Eagles head to the Miami (Ohio) Tournament in Oxford, Ohio running from March 16-18.
