WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Niagara tennis programs swept the Robert Morris Colonials in convincing fashion on Tuesday. The men’s team eased to a 6-1 win, while the women’s team topped the Colonials, 5-2.

“Both the guys’ and girls’ teams handled the windy conditions very well today,” head coach Anthony Nguyen said. “They went out with a very workmanlike attitude and took care of business. It’ encouraging to see the progress we are making on both sides.”

On the men’s side, Niagara (2-3) didn’t drop a single set in singles play. Freshman Lorenz Schwojer got the ball rolling with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Andre Coiro in No. 3 singles and was followed by fellow freshman David Raymond’s victory in No. 2 singles. Team captain Brandon Gallegos (No. 4), Olivier Dufour Coursol (No. 5) and Mathieu Lacasse all picked up wins.

In doubles, Gallegos and Raymond defeated Igor Neves and Coiro, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles and the No. 2 doubles tandem of Schwojer and Coursol clinched the doubles point, 8-2.

On the women’s side, Niagara (3-3) was just as dominant in its first match of its spring break tour. The Purple Eagles won the first four singles match, beginning with Hilary Hansen’s straight set win over Claudia Mourao Teixeira in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Iva Celan (No. 2), Ashley Ta (No. 3) and Maria Ortiz (No. 4) followed in concession with wins as the young Purple Eagles even their record to 3-3 on the season.

NU won on all three doubles matches. In No. 3 doubles, Rachel Zilka and Jenna McCune clinched the point with an 8-4 win.

The women’s team is back in action on Wednesday against Delaware State. Both teams will wrap up play in Winter Park, Fla. against Creighton on Thursday.
