Live Stats

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Niagara softball team (4-14) will be taking on the Youngstown State Penguins (11-5) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

Niagara hasn't played the Penguins since April 2010, when the Purple Eagles split the doubleheader.

The Purple Eagles are currently led by senior Jennifer Hare, who has a .265 batting average along with seven RBIs. Junior Becky Zill has been hitting the ball well so far this year, with a .255 batting average, while leading the team with three home runs and 11 RBIs.

In the circle, sophomore Kim Bryson has been striking out batters at a torrid pace, fanning 63 batters in 51.1 innings. The Ohio native is currently 34th nationally in strikeouts per seven innings (8.6) and is 18 strikeouts behind Lynn Taylor (1992-94) for fifth place on Niagara's career strikeout list.

The Penguins enter Wednesday having won two of their last three contests, downing Columbia and Bucknell, while losing to Fairleigh Dickinson.

Haley Thomas leads Youngstown State with a .465 batting average, while Jordan Ingalls leads the team with 16 RBIs. The Penguins currently have eight student-athletes who have at least a .300 batting average.

The Purple Eagles will likely see Casey Crozier and Kayla Haslett in the circle for the Penguins. Crozier is 5-2, with a 1.75 earned-run average and 45 strikeouts, while Haslett has a 2.62 earned-run average and a 3-2 record.
