BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Niagara men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to cross-town rival Canisius on Saturday afternoon at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool, with the men’s team dropping a 159-84 decision to the Golden Griffins, while the women’s team lost via a 151-92 margin.
Seniors
Ashley Jones and
Ian O'Rourke were impressive on the board, each bringing home wins in both the one- and three-meter diving events. Jones finished the three-meter dive with a final score of 232.65 and the one-meter dive with a 243.21. O’Rourke captured the three-meter event with a score of 347.25 and the one-meter in 267.22.
The freshmen were strong in the pool for the men's side.
Shane Baxter nabbed first in the 200-yard IM (1:55.79) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.22), while teammate
Corban Bothell finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 4:56.24.
Jason Ellis added a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.57).
The junior trio of
Lindsey Jackson ,
Aubrey Kettrick and
Julia Bulmahn each earned first place in their respective events. Jackson
took first in the 200-yard IM (2:16.10), Kettrick
won the 100-yard freestyle (54.57) and Bulmahn
finished first in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.82). Jackson also swam the 200-yard butterfly in 2:19.86 for second while Kettrick finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.53).
Sophomore
Emily Kisloski earned a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:32.74) while fellow sophomore
Ashley Harrington nabbed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.61).
The men and the women conclude their regular season when they host St. Bonaventure on Senior Day, Saturday, Jan. 28! The action is set to begin at 12:45 p.m. at the Oxy Aquatic Center.
