NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams fell to the University at Buffalo on Friday afternoon at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The men’s team lost 124-100, while the women dropped a 126-93 decision.
“I gave the team ten things to concentrate on today,” said head coach
Ben Nigro. “They really focused on the process today. I am looking for that focus to continue tomorrow.”
The Purple Eagles were led by freshman
Shane Baxter and junior
Aubrey Kettrick. Baxter tallied wins in the 200 yard IM with his finishing time of 1:57.79, and grabbed a first place finish the 100 yard backstroke (52.17). Kettrick placed first in the 100 yard freestyle, completing the swim in 54.76.
Niagara also had strong efforts by senior
Kaley Pfohl placed second in both the 1000 yard freestyle (11:58.31) and the 500 yard freestyle (5:56.52). Teammate
Emily Kisloski nabbed first in the 500 yard freestyle with her time of 5:40.35 while junior
Lindsey Jackson also finished first in the 100 yard breaststoke (1:14.29).
Ashley Harrington placed second in the 200 yard IM (2:17.56) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:15.80).
On the men's side, Niagara had a great showing from
Alex Siuda who finished first in the 100 yard breastroke (1:05.27) while
Corban Bothell completed the 1000 yard freestyle in 10:17.76 for a second place finish.
On the board,
Ashley Jones (192.15),
Laura Sadler (178.42) and
Emily Hughes(160.49) grabbed the top three positions in the three-meter diving event while
Cody Heimbrock (184.95) and
Matthew Carrozzo (144.37) finished in the top two of the one-meter event.
The Purple Eagles are back in the pool tomorrow when they host the Boston College Eagles at the Oxy Aquatic Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
