Big 4 Midweek Contest
Niagara will wrap up its three-game homestand with a Big 4 battle versus the Buffalo Bulls on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports Net.
The Purple Eagles and Bulls will meet for the 89th time on Wednesday in a series that began during the 1906-07 season. NU, which leads the all-time series 58-30, has lost the last two meetings and will be looking for its first win at home in the series since an 80-63 win on Nov. 20, 2007.
Ready for Action
~ The Purple Eagles are 11-5 versus Big 4 rivals Buffalo, Canisius and St. Bonaventure in the last four seasons.
~ Juan’ya Green earned Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week honors on Monday. Green averaged 30 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists per game and 1.0 steals per game.
~ Green scored 35 points against Fairfield in his first MAAC game. The 35 points were the most by a Niagara freshman in program history and the most by a MAAC player this season.
~ Green’s 19.5 ppg is third in the nation amongst in freshmen and 36th in the nation. In the conference, Green leads all freshmen and is third in scoring.
~ Ameen Tanksley had career-highs in points (15) and rebounds (12) versus Fairfield for his first-ever double-double. It was Niagara’s first double-double this season and the first since Anthony Nelson (Feb. 27, 2011).
~ Antoine Mason dished out a career-high seven assists in the defeat to Fairfield.
~ Green has scored in double figures in every game this season. Mason has scored in double figures in seventh out of eighth game.
~ Green (37.4), Jordan (36.0) and Mason (34.2) all rank in the top 10 in the MAAC in minutes played, with Green leading the conference.

Home Run
Niagara will play six of its eight December games at the Gallagher Center. The Purple Eagles hosted Fairfield and Iona, who were picked second and first, respectively, in the preseason poll. NU will also face local rivals Buffalo and St. Bonaventure (Dec. 30) as well as CAA power Drexel (Dec. 13) and UMBC (Dec. 28).

UB enters Wednesday’s game with 4-2 record. The Bulls dropped their last game, 66-60, against St. Bonaventure. Zach Filzen, who was named MAC East Division Player of the Week, is averaging 17.0 ppg.

The Purple Eagles lead the all-time series which began during the 1906-07 season. Niagara and UB have split the last four meetings and NU is 3-3 at home under Joe Mihalich.

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Niagara men’s basketball team had an 82-64 setback at cross-town rival, the Buffalo Bulls, on Wednesday night at Alumni Arena.
Green Earns MAAC Rookie Honors
Juan’ya Green was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on Dec. 5. Green averaged 30 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists per game and 1.0 steals per game against Iona and Fairfield, who were picked one and two, respectively, in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Green broke a 33-year old school record in his first conference game on Friday against Fairfield.
Green’s Record Game
Juan’ya Green broke a 33-year old record in his first conference game on Dec. 2. Green scored 35 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the field to set a Niagara freshman scoring record. Green’s 35 points surpassed Garry Jordan’s 30 points versus Saint Peter’s on Jan. 4, 1978. Green also set a career-best in rebounds (six) and in 3-pointers (five), which were one shy of tying the NU freshman record set by Tyrone Lewis on Dec. 6, 2006.
Green’s 35 points are tied for fifth most in MAAC history amongst freshmen.
