BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams swam to a split against Canisius on Thursday evening, with the men's team dropping a 126-117 decision to the Golden Griffins, while the women's team came out on top via a 137-104 margin.
On the men's side, sophomore Chris Zukas (Elmira, N.Y.) won both the one-meter diving event (252.00) and the three-meter diving event (257.78). Fellow underclassman Brian Sawma (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) took home first place in the 200 yard butterfly event, clocking in at a time of 2:01.14.
In the women's competition, senior Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) took home top honors in the 100 and 200 yard freestyle, while sophomore Ashley Jones (Lockport, N.Y.) won both the one-meter diving event (237.07) and the three-meter diving event (218.10). Freshman Julia Bulmahn (Clarence, N.Y.) continued a strong freshman season by helping to take first place in the 200 yard medley relay, as well as taking top honors in the 200 yard backstroke.
The Purple Eagles are back in action on Jan. 30, when they host Little Three rival St. Bonaventure.
