BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Niagara split a pair of games against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Eagles won game one 5-2 before falling 8-0 in game two.
Niagara (9-6) scored all five runs in the fifth inning after entering the inning down 1-0.
Teresa Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) started the inning with a double, and then later scored from a Melissa Markle (Orchard Park, N.Y.) single to left field. Four batters later, Kristin Kill (South Portland, Maine) doubled to left field to score three Purple Eagles. Maggie McDonald (Cicero, N.Y.) scored Kill on a triple of her own.
Freshman pitcher Julie DiMatteo (South Portland, Maine) improved to 4-1 on the season. She struck out three and allowed two earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Lehigh jumped on Niagara early in game two. The Mountain Hawks pushed six runners through home plate in the first two innings. Niagara would only muster three hits in the 8-0 setback.
Niagara and Lehigh will conclude their series tomorrow at noon.
