Swimming & Diving Sweeps Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving teams were able to sweep Fredonia on Friday afternoon, with the men winning 129-105 and the women claiming victory by a 143-100 margin.

Freshman Brian Sawma (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) had a strong performance for the Purple Eagles, winning the 200 yard butterfly event and finishing in second in the 200 yard IM event. Senior Ian McCoy (Redlands, Calif.) was a double-winner for Niagara, taking home top honors in the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle events.

For the women, senior Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) and freshman Lindsey Jackson (Marietta, Ga.) had strong days, with the upperclassman winning the 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle events. Jackson continues her strong rookie campaign, by winning the 200 yard breaststroke, 200 yard IM and was a member of the first place 200 yard freestyle relay.

The women's team is back in the pool when they host Youngstown State on Oct. 30, while the men's team is off until Nov. 6, when they host Duquesne.
