Softball Grabs Two Wins at UMBC Spring Classic

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Niagara softball team (7-11) grabbed a pair of victories in the UMBC Spring Classic on Thursday, shutting out Mount St. Mary's 4-0 before toppling St. Francis (Pa.) 13-3 in six innings.

Tiffany McCrory (Albuquerque, N.M.) improved to 4-4 with a combined shutout in game one. The right-hander allowed five hits while striking out six batters in six innings. Cassie Stone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) pitched a perfect seventh to preserve the win.

Heather Lorhman (Newport Beach, Ca.) had an RBI double to start a three-run fourth inning. Felicia Coffey (Mesa, Ariz.), Heidi Conlon (Lewiston, N.Y.) and Maggie McDonald (Cicero, N.Y.) also picked up RBIs in the win.

In game two the Purple Eagles dominated the game with 14 hits and six home runs. Kristin Sito (Elyria. Oh.) hit her first career home run while both McDonald and Coffey tallied two home runs each and Jenna Baker (West Seneca, N.Y.) picked up an additional homer.

Both Lohrman and McDonald went 3-4 at the plate.

Pitching for the Purple Eagles was Brooke Viola (Los Alamitos, Calif.) who pitched five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Finishing the game for the Purps was Stone who game up no hits and no earned runs.
