COLLEGE PARK, MD.- The Niagara University softball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday afternoon to Lehigh and No. 23 Maryland during the 2008 Maryland Spring Break Classic. The pair of losses drops the Purple Eagles to 5-9.

Maryland 4, Niagara 1

Niagara struck first, as after a Teresa Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) walk, sister Tory Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) smacked a double which gave the Purple Eagles the 1-0 advantage.

Maryland came back within the next two innings, scoring four runs and securing the win over the Purple Eagles. Tiffany McCrory (Albuquerque, N.M.) pitched the complete game, while striking out three.

Lehigh 6, Niagara 4

Lehigh got a quick jump on the Purple Eagles, as they scored five runs to be up 5-0 after two innings of play. The Purple Eagles responded by scoring twice in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 5-2. With Tory Healy and Jenna Baker (West Seneca, N.Y.) on second and third, Heidi Conlon (Lewiston, N.Y.) singled into left field, bringing around Healy and Baker.

Baker ripped her seventh home run of the year to make the score 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth. The Purple Eagles would score one more in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as they ultimately fell by a 6-4 final. Freshman Michelle Krier (Kenmore, N.Y.) pitched 4.2 innings, while striking out two.
