CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Niagara University men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped a dual meet with Cleveland State on Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio. The women fell 132-95, while the men's team lost 137-89.
In the winner's circle for the women was sophomore diver Amanda Summers (Alden, N.Y.) and freshman swimmer Elizabeth Piggott (Staatsburg, N.Y.). Summer was victorious in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while Piggott claimed the 200-yard freestyle crown.
Six different Purple Eagles turned in second-place performances, including two each from Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), Mariah Glass (Oswego, N.Y.) and Hope Wiles (Baltimore, Md.).
On the men's side of the pool, Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) was a double-winner in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events, while Ian O'Rourke (Grand Island, N.Y.) won the 1-meter diving event. Garvey finished his events in 21.64 and 46.84, respectively, while the freshman diver earned 274.5 points in his win.
Four Purple Eagles earned second-place finishes, led by a pair from Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.).
The Purple Eagles are back in action Feb. 2 when they host Little 3 Rival St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
