Softball Bows Out of MAAC Tournament

STRATFORD, Conn. -- The Niagara University softball team (18-20) bowed out of the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Softball Championship losing 5-1 to Marist College (19-29) Friday afternoon at DeLuca Field.

Junior Megan Rigos threw a two-hitter while the Purple Eagle pitchers gave up 13 hits.

The Red Foxes scored first when Pamela de la Llave hit a two-run single to right field in the top of the second.

Niagara's lone run came in the fourth when senior Lisa Baker (West Seneca, N.Y./West Senca West) doubled to right center field and freshman Jenna Baker (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) hit an RBI single to right field.

Marist went up 5-1 in the fifth when Christine Jakobesen hit a three-run single to short center field.

Junior Tiffany McCrory (Albuquerque, N.M.) took the loss on the mound, giving up 13 hits and striking out six.
