NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – After over a week of time off, the Niagara University softball team (6-12) returns to the diamond Wednesday when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate University (12-15) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the Eaton Street Complex.
The Purple Eagles last played on April 1, splitting a doubleheader at Iona College. They had a doubleheader at Canisius College on April 5 rescheduled for April 24.
Niagara has four players hitting over .300 led by sophomore Heather Lohrman (Newport Beach, Calif.) who sports a team-leading .353 batting average.
Freshman Kristin Kill (South Portland, Maine), tops the squad in hits (18), runs (12), doubles (5) and is hitting .316, while junior Tory Healy (Las Vegas, Nev.) is hitting .310 with 18 hits, four doubles and team bests of three home runs and 11 RBI.
Senior Nicole Sum (Burnaby, B.C.) is hitting .333 with 17 hits, five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBI.
On the mound, junior Tiffany McCrory (Albuquerque, N.M.) has a 1.77 earned-run average and 37 strikeouts in 10 appearances and eight starts.
Colgate has also been idle due to weather complications. In its last outing on April 1, it beat Holy Cross, 5-0, and 5-1 in a doubleheader in Worcester, Mass. The Raiders enter Wednesday’s game on a four-game winning streak.
Two players are hitting over .300 for Colgate, led by Calla Yee who is hitting .310. Kortney Hannah is hitting .306 and has a team-leading 22 hits. Whitney Scott tops the squad with 17 runs, two home runs and nine RBI.
On the mound, the Raiders are led by Kelsey Nordstrom with a 1.07 earned-run average, 7-4 record in 14 appearances and 10 starts, and 87 strikeouts. She also has three shut outs and a save to her credit.
Jesse McCarrick and Amanda Eccleston have made 11 and 10 appearances, respectively, while Olivia Whiteman has seen action in six games.
Niagara swept the series at Niagara Field last year, winning 3-2 and 2-1.
