VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Niagara University softball team (1-5) picked up its first win of the season Friday when it beat the University of Delaware, 3-0. The Purple Eagles then lost 4-0 to Cornell University.
Niagara returns to action Saturday when it plays host Norfolk State at 9 a.m. and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Marist College at 1 p.m.

Junior Tiffany McCrory (Albuquerque, N.M.) picked up her first win and shutout of the season, throwing a four hitter with eight strikeouts.
Freshman Kristin Kill (South Portland, Maine) collected two singles while senior Nicole Sum (Burnaby, B.C.) had a double and single. Sophomore Felicia Coffey (Mesa, Ariz.) registered three RBI.
The Purple Eagles scored first when senior Lisa Baker (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) doubled to right centerfield, moved to second on a ground out and then scored on Coffey’s sacrifice fly to left field.
Niagara made it 3-0 in the seventh when junior Jamie Constantz (Endicott, N.Y.) singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Baker. Kill singled her to third and Coffey then hit a two-run double down the left field line.
Cornell 4, Niagara 0
Niagara left five runners on base and committed three errors in the first two innings to lose its third game vs. the Big Red this season.
Coffey and freshman Jenna Baker (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) were 2 for 3 and Baker had a double.
On the mound, freshman Cassie Stone (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) took the loss going two and a third innings with two strikeouts. Sophomore Katie Gleiser (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Maryvale) finished the game going four and two thirds innings and giving up one hit.
