NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s basketball team (8-8, 3-2 MAAC) made a season-high 15 three-point field goals Tuesday night as the Purple Eagles recorded an 85-76 victory over Fairfield University (3-14, 1-4) at the Gallagher Center in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

Niagara’s 15 three-pointers were one shy of the school record of 16 set against Yale, Dec. 8, 2004. The 15 three-pointers are also the most made in the MAAC this season.

Junior forward Charron Fisher (Pennsauken, N.J.) recorded a game-high 27 points and nine rebounds to lead Niagara while senior guard Lorenzo Miles (Washington, D.C.) added 19 points and seven assists. Miles sank a team-high five three-pointers while freshman guard Tyrone Lewis (Levittown, Pa.) came off the bench to make four three-pointers and finish with 18 points. Senior forward J.R. Duffey (Fort Worth, Texas) scored 11 points, all in the second half. Duffey and Fisher each made three three-pointers each.

Fairfield was led by Mike Van Schaick’s 18 points. Herbie Allen and Greg Nero added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Stags opened an eight-point lead, 20-12, after Marty O’Sullivan scored on a tip-in with 12:33 to play. Lewis and Miles hit back-to-back three-pointers before Lewis tied the game, 20-20, with a layup after a steal. Miles sank another three-pointer before Fisher completed a conventional three-point play for a 26-20 lead at 8:06 left in the half.

Fairfield answered with an 11-4 run for a 31-30 lead before Fisher ran off five-straight points to give Niagara a 35-31 lead at 2:57. Freshman Rydell Brooks (Akron, Ohio) sank two foul shots as Niagara held a 37-36 halftime lead.

The teams traded three-point baskets to open the second half before Niagara went on a 9-2 run for a 49-41 lead on a Duffey basket with 16:17 to play.

The Purple Eagles eventually pushed the lead to 10 points, 61-51, on a Fisher three-pointer with 11:27 left. A Duffey three-pointer pushed the lead to 14, 75-61, with 5:41 remaining.

Niagara returns to action Friday when it travels to Baltimore to take on Loyola College at 7 p.m. in Reitz Arena.
