ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The Niagara University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their regular-season schedule Tuesday evening with loses at Big Four rival St. Bonaventure in the Reilly Center Pool. The Purple Eagle men’s team lost, 158-82, and the women, 154-73.
Freshman Ian McCoy (Redlands, Calif.) won the 100 breaststroke (1:04.90) while junior Pat Garvey (Pine Bush, N.Y.) captured the 100 butterfly (53.70). He also finished second in the 200 IM (2:02.44). Sophomore Zak Brown (Bakersfield, Calif.) posted a season-best 10:20.34 in the 1,000 free.
On the women’s side, freshman Dana Vernal (Milford, Conn.) placed second in the 100 fly (1:05.54). Classmate and Niagara Athlete of the Week, Ashley Clingersmith (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) finished third in the 50 free (26:04).
Both Purple Eagles teams return to action Feb. 8-10 at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships.
